Design by Exploration Istanbul
Under the title of architecture and ornaments, nine architecture students from Bern University of Applied Sciences, attended a two week summer school programme in Istanbul with the specific aim of researching, designing and producing ceramic tiles under supervision of Gorbon Tiles, inspired by the city of Istanbul. The aim was to expose architects to new materials, cultures and production processes led by simple creative intuition. The students worked in groups of three. Each group had a specific focus on either tiles for the floor, the ceiling or the walls. Due to the restrictions of timing and production, the tiles were designed and produced in a record time of 3 days.
